The Scottish Government and Local Heroes present “What Are You Looking At?” by Timorous Beasties at 3daysofdesign 2025 in Copenhagen.

18–20 June 2025
10:00–18:00
Galleri Jens Frederiksen, Overgaden Oven Vandet 54, 1415 Copenhagen
Part of 3daysofdesign

This full room installation features a vivid mix of wallpaper and textile patterns reflected by a mirrored floor, transforming the space into an immersive world of print. Responding to the 3daysofdesign theme KEEP IT REAL, Timorous Beasties designers Alistair McAuley and Paul Simmons have created a space that celebrates individual expression and offers the chance to step into the whimsical and sometimes menacing world of Scotland’s most iconic print designers. The canal side showroom in Christianshavn offers an opportunity to meet the designers and get hands–on experience of the artisan skill of printmaking.

Celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, Timorous Beasties is a design studio based in Glasgow, Scotland. Founded by Alistair McAuley and Paul Simmons, graduates of The Glasgow School of Art, in 1990. Offering a portfolio of over 500 original designs, the brand focuses on hand and digitally printed fabric and wallpaper, designed in–house. Known for their surreal and provocative wall–coverings and textiles and as an icon of Scottish design, Timorous Beasties’ work embodies a unique diversity of pattern and displays chic irreverence. Timorous Beasties designs are available internationally, with showrooms in Edinburgh, Glasgow, and London. The brand has collaborated widely with prominent brands including Johnnie Walker, S.C.P and Ercol.

Timorous Beasties' work embodies a unique diversity of pattern, ranging from design that echoes a golden age of copperplate engraving (a time-honoured classic is the Thistle range; or Merian Palm superwide wallpaper) to examples of a distinctly edgy nature, an elegant transgression, a display of chic irreverence.

Mistry Designs' textiles are created from hand painted artwork using rare pigments with global historic significance and heritage painting techniques. Elaborate designs are created to enhance the everyday with pattern, texture and colour through a sensorial experience. Shweta, is the founder and director and the third generation of Mistry (family name) to continue creating designs in fabric and wallpaper.

No Rules Wallpaper design modular wallpapers that match anywhere! Their innovative wallpapers have been intentionally designed to not repeat. All parts of the roll work together to form a seamless wall covering. There is no right or wrong way to apply it. Top to bottom, left to right, the choice is yours. Complete freedom, with unique results–founded by Marion Parola and Yvonne Elliott-Kellighan.

A chandelier with 'monstera leaves' (Urpflanze) hangs from the ceiling. A fluted marble-effect, mustard-coloured cylindrical side table (Chalk Plaster); a de stijl inspired dining chair (Mirrl); and a sheet of white surface material speckled with colourful inclusions (Mirrl) are all arranged in front of a minimalist backdrop of white boards.

The Future of Home
– Local Heroes at London Design Festival 2021

The Future of Home by Local Heroes showroom at London Design Festival 2021 celebrated Scotland’s contemporary design scene. Part of the prestigious Brompton Design District, designers from 15 studios and brands that embody Scotland’s dynamic design culture, were invited by curator Stacey Hunter to exhibit new work in a special collection marking five years since the first Local Heroes exhibition.

Reflecting on an increased fluidity between our home and our workspace, The Future of Home offered a fresh take on modern interiors. Over 40 new products, from furniture and lighting to textiles and collectible craft were brought together to create spaces of comfort and style that also reflect the hybrid needs of flexible working.

The Future of Home offered a vision of a future where interiors are fun, beautiful, and tactile. A platform for critical discussion, and acquisition, the exhibition presented product launches from a new generation of designers.
