Jennifer Kent created the Transit travel blanket especially for Local Heroes – it is designed to be used on the move and keep warm on flights or long drives. The Transit pattern derives from a historical knitting pattern which Jennifer has reinterpreted into a modern graphic design – confident in its simplicity and imbuing a sense of movement with its track-like repeat.
“This idea of using something from the past as a source of inspiration to create something completely new is a common theme in my studio’s work. The super soft quality of extra-fine lambswool fulfills the desire for comfort when travelling and Transit comes neatly packaged in a specially developed zip lock bag to allow you to easily pack away when not in use.”
The Transit travel blanket has been designed in Jennifer’s studio in Glasgow and manufactured using 100% Super Geelong Lambswool in Shetland. The design comes in three fresh colourways - Navy & Ecru, Skye & Ecru and Flame & Ecru which feature on both sides of the blanket. This piece is limited edition and only 50 of each colourway will be manufactured.
Founded in Glasgow by designer Jennifer Kent, the studio specialises in creating modern knitwear, accessories and interior products. The collections are thoughtfully curated and reflect Jennifer’s minimal aesthetic and impeccable attention to detail. The brand is not driven by seasonal trends but instead places a strong focus on ensuring its beautifully made products are timeless and can be enjoyed and appreciated year after year.
All production takes place in Scotland and Jennifer works only with well-respected and highly skilled manufacturers who share her desire to create knitwear of the finest quality. Products are knitted and hand-finished to the highest of standards using the most luxurious natural fibres and time-honoured manufacturing techniques. The brand values the skills and experience which can still be found in Scottish mills and enjoys working with those who instinctively understand the nature of luxury knitwear production and the care and attention which this demands.
Jennifer graduated from Glasgow School of Art with a degree in Textile Design and a Masters in Textiles as Fashion. She worked as a knitwear designer and product developer in London before returning to Scotland to launch her own brand. Jennifer regularly exhibits at trade shows and the brand is sold in stores across the world. Last year she opened her own shop in the West End of Glasgow.
